What Is Color Therapy?
There are seven colors that correspond to the seven major centers of our physical and spiritual bodies. In Ayurveda, these centers are called chakras. Each chakra is related to a major organ and has a specific purpose, and a corresponding symbol and color. These seven chakras and their corresponding colors are:
- Root chakra – located at the base of the spine – RED
- Sacral chakra – located just below the belly button – ORANGE
- Solar plexus chakra – located in the upper abdomen – YELLOW
- Heart chakra – located in the middle of the chest – GREEN
- Throat chakra – located in the throat – BLUE
- Third eye chakra – located in the middle of the forehead – INDIGO
- Crown chakra – located on top of the head – WHITE or VIOLET
Color therapy is when we use or focus on a specific color with the intent in mind to heal the corresponding area in the body. You can also use these colors to heal by wearing clothes that have this color or surrounding yourself with items of the color that you want. But one of the simplest ways to enjoy the health uses of colors and to use colors for healing is visualization. And here’s how color therapy works.
Health Uses of Colors – 7 Colors that Heal
1. Healing Color Red
The healing color red corresponds to the first energy center, the so-called root chakra, located in the lower back and along the legs, related to the urinary tract, the colon, and the tailbone. If you have health problems related to these lower areas of your body you may have an imbalance in the root chakra, which can be either over or underactive. The emotions related to an imbalanced root chakra are feeling insecure about your basic needs, finances, shelter, and being in survival mode more often than not. Meeting end’s needs.
How to Use Color Red to Heal
Close your eyes and visualize the color red. “Place” this red light at the base of your spine (or perineum) and let it travel up your spine to the top of your head. You will feel its enveloping warmth, strength, and vitality impregnating your entire body. If you repeat this simple exercise, you will regain confidence in yourself, and in your own powers to break the survival cycle and start to thrive.
2. Healing Color Orange
It is the color of Buddhist monks’ robes, a symbol of vitality, orange instills a good mood and optimism. If you experience issues such as frequent UTIs, fertility issues, lower back pain, and low libido, you may have an imbalanced sacral chakra. On an emotional level, you may feel lacking creativity, inhibition, and problems expressing your sexuality, and enjoying bodily pleasure.
How to Use Color Red to Heal
Visualize the color orange in your abdominal area, just below the navel. Imagine this orange light spreading in your lower abdomen area and radiating. Soak in its positive colorful vibration, and allow it to heal your emotional and physical body. This color therapy will unlock your creativity, imagination, and pleasure in what life has to offer.
3. Healing Color Yellow
The color of the sun, celebration, and joy, yellow is the symbol of life. It corresponds to the third energy center, the solar plexus, where the diaphragm, the respiratory muscle is located and is the center of emotions and vital force. Digestive problems and eating disorders are related to this energy center. On an emotional level, if you have self-esteem issues, lack confidence in yourself, and feel your personal power is weak, you may have an imbalanced solar plexus chakra.
How to Use Color Yellow to Heal
Imagine the color yellow inveiling your solar plexus areas, and enjoy the calm and serenity it brings. Imagine it as a beautiful sunflower. Feel how the sunflower opens with every breath you take and how it brings you calmness and inner light.
4. Healing Color Green
The color green symbolizes spring, hope, and rebirth and corresponds to the heart and lungs. If you experience heart or lung problems, and even weight issues you may have an imbalanced sacral chakra. Even more, if you tend to always put others first, and feel lonely, insecure, or isolated, you may have a heart chakra imbalance. You can fix this problem with color therapy.
How to Use Color Green to Heal
Imagine that you are walking in a meadow, contemplating the welcoming nature that invigorates you. You feel good and safe.
Surround your heart with this natural green color. Allow your lungs to fill with stillness, and you will find a sense of love and compassion for yourself and others.
5. Healing Color Blue
The color blue corresponds to the throat chakra, which is related to expression and communication. If you experience frequent throat problems, as well as problems with the teeth, gums, or mouth, you may have an imbalanced sacral chakra. More so, if you have issues expressing yourself verbally, such as dominating conversations, gossiping, speaking without thinking, and not being able to speak your mind, the chances are high that you have an imbalanced throat chakra.
How to Use Color Blue to Heal
Direct your attention to your own neck and visualize the color blue, like the sea, like the clear sky. Feel how your neck is no longer tense, but rather relaxed, and enjoy the calm that this relaxation causes. It’s a silence that will allow you to express yourself freely, to communicate with confidence. Repeat this visualization exercise until you feel your words flow freely, speak your personal truth with good intentions and self-confidence.
6. Healing Color Indigo
Color indigo corresponds to the third eye chakra, the chakra of meditation, and of clairvoyance. When you experience frequent headaches or migraines, concentration, hearing problems, brain fog, and unclear thinking, chances are high that you have an imbalanced third eye chakra. If you have a hard time following your intuition, that very soft inner voice, are stuck in the rational physical mind, are cynical, and believe there’s nothing more than meets the two physical eyes, chances are you have an imbalanced third eye chakra.
How to Use Color Indigo to Heal
Focus your attention on the point in the middle of your forehead. Visualize the indigo color in the middle of the forehead, and let it radiate. Let your imagination run wild for a few moments. Gradually, your thoughts calm down, your forehead relaxes and you are as calm as you can possibly be.
7. Healing Color White
White is the highest vibrational color, as it contains all the other colors in it. It corresponds to the crown chakra located at the top of the head, the center of your spirituality, and it represents purity, serenity, innocence, and balance. The crown chakra is linked to all the other six chakras (and therefore to every organ), and so it affects not just all of those organs, but also the brain and nervous system. An unbalanced crown chakra is seen in people who are narrow-minded, skeptical, or stubborn in what they believe, even when it’s mathematically impossible.
How to Use Color White to Heal
You can easily fix an unbalanced crown chakra with color therapy. Visualize a white beam of light rising from the top of your head and into the ether. Feel the lightness and inner peace that the white color creates within you. Now you are ready to expand your awareness and see things more clearly from a higher perspective.
Color therapy is one of the simplest ways to use colors to heal both the physical and emotional bodies. Now you know what are the health uses of colors and how to use color to heal. In addition to the visualization exercises above, wear the healing color corresponding to the energetical center/s that you want to balance, and enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables of that color.
